Madeleine Albright, first female Secretary of State, dead at 84

NEW YORK, March 23, 2022-Madeleine Albright, the first woman to serve as Secretary of State, has died from cancer at 84, her family said Wednesday.

Albright served as the 64th Secretary of State, appointed by President Bill Clinton. She also served as a member of the United Nations, the Center for National Policy and on President Jimmy Carter’s National Security Council.

In 2012, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
Albright, born Marie Jana Korbelova, was a native of Prague who came to the United States as a refugee in 1948.

She was “a tireless champion of democracy and human rights,” her family said in a statement.(nypost.com)
